[ Cycling ] Open Question : Does your group ride obey traffic signals/stop signs?
I’ve about had it with my group ride. I have ridden with the same group for the last hundreds of Sundays and I love this ride because there isn’t a ton of people riding it and we always stay together and we are all basically at the same level. However, this group has always run red lights and barely stops at stop signs. This has always made me feel uncomfortable because I am a commuting cyclist, not just a for hobby or sport, cyclist and I believe it is my duty to ride in such a way that is fair, safe and most importantly doesn’t hack drivers off (I hear constant complaints from motorists about the f*ing cyclists who feel they are above the rules of the road…..while driving cars with same rules, same roads, same rights b.s.). Anyhow I always just dealt with it on this ride although I loathed it but the last two rides this couple has brought their 12 year old boy. Now this boy has done countless centuries and can freaking ride!! But I watch in total awe as the parents continue to blaze past stop signs and ride through red lights. I’ve had enough and it makes me sad because I love this ride. I don’t want to tell anyone how to ride so I guess I just will stop showing up and unless asked specifically why keep my mouth shut. But at the same time I almost want to say something. Does your group rides ignore traffic control? Do you think it is wrong? If so what have you done?
